Project Background
In Lagos, Nigeria, urban renewal is not just a concept but a vital mission. The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) spearheads initiatives aimed at making the state sustainable, resilient, and attractive to businesses through community regeneration and inclusive physical planning. Its objectives include upgrading infrastructure facilities in blighted areas, including the Baale Kota Road in Ibeju Lekki Local Government. LASURA has procured the services of Messrs. Sailthrough Construction Limited as Contractor and Messrs. AEC GROUP as the Designer and Supervising Consultant for the Rehabilitation/Upgrading of Baale Kota Road.
Statement Of Problem
Baale Kota Road, once a vital artery connecting communities, has succumbed to neglect and deterioration over the years. To address this pressing issue and revitalise the area, LASURA embarked on a comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrading project. The scope of consultancy services provided by AEC GROUP includes Engineering Design, Procurement Support, and Construction Supervision and Management, ensuring the road’s transformation aligns with modern standards and community needs.
Proposed Solution
The Baale Kota Road rehabilitation project encompasses a 0.39km stretch of existing community road alignment, traversing three distinct communities. AEC GROUP’s meticulous engineering design integrates 80mm concrete paving blocks, 100mm sharp sand bedding layer, 150mm crushed stone base, and 150mm sand cement stabilised bed subbase, along with essential infrastructures like culverts, line drains, TSM, speed bumps, and traffic junctions. This comprehensive approach ensures durability, safety, and functionality while enhancing the road’s capacity to withstand the demands of urban traffic. With construction commenced in January 2023 and scheduled for completion within 24 months, the project represents a crucial step towards enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for residents in the surrounding communities
