Project Background
The Agric – Isawo – Konu – Arepo – Lagos Ibadan Expressway project represents a pivotal endeavor in enhancing connectivity and infrastructure within Lagos and Ogun States, Nigeria. Spanning 12.75 kilometers, the project aims to upgrade and reconstruct vital road segments to meet international standards and accommodate the growing demands of urbanisation and commerce. Phase 1A, encompassing CH 0+400 – 7+ 400, marks the initial stage of this ambitious initiative, focusing on improving road infrastructure and enhancing transportation links within the region.
Statement Of Problem
The existing Agric – Isawo – Konu – Arepo route faces challenges associated with congestion, inadequate road capacity, and substandard infrastructure, hindering the seamless movement of people and goods. Recognising the critical need for intervention, the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructures embarked on the reconstruction and upgrade of Phase 1A to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth across the affected communities.
Proposed Solution
Phase 1A of the project entails a comprehensive upgrade of the Agric – Isawo – Konu corridor, introducing dual carriageways, robust pavement structures, and essential infrastructures to support safe and efficient transportation. AEC GROUP’s consultancy services encompass Engineering Design and Reviews, ensuring adherence to international standards and optimal utilisation of resources, as well as Construction Supervision and Management, overseeing the project’s execution and compliance with quality and safety protocols.
The reconstructed roadway will feature an 8.30-meter dual carriageway, paved with 80mm thick paving stones and supported by a foundation comprising sharp sand bedding, crushed stone base course, and soil-cement stabilised subbase. Additionally, the project includes the construction of reinforced concrete drains/culverts, pedestrian walkways, retaining walls, and three pedestrian bridges to enhance safety and accessibility. With meticulous attention to detail and a focus on sustainable infrastructure development, Phase 1A of the Agric – Isawo – Konu – Arepo project is poised to deliver lasting benefits, including improved mobility, enhanced community policing, and strengthened economic vitality across the region.
